I'm having issues colouring the actual line when it comes to vector layers. I know in regular line layers you can just select 'preserve opacity' and colour your line and be happy with it, but with vector layers that 'preserve opacity' option doesn't seem to be available. Any idea? Thanks.

Sorry this is VERY late. But if you are using SAI, there is a simple trick. Create your lines in vector until you are satisfied. Mane a new layer underneath the vector layer, select your vector layer and click "Merge down layer" in your layers box. This will merge the vector with a "normal" layer and prevent you to make any changes to the lines in vector style. Then click "preserve opacity" like with any other normal layer and color the lines.

Thanks for your help! :)

For Vector lines you have to use the "Color" tool. It's three left from your pen tool when you're on your vector layer. If you look at the last screen shot in the tutorial, it's right under the color blocks.

Click Color, select the color you want, and click the line you want to change.

Ahh, thanks so much! Someone told me to just hit ctrl, but that didn't do anything but move the whole picture around. This helped a lot better. c:

Good tutorial i had no clue how to make my lines smoother. Or what a vector layer was. I have literally been inking by hand. Erasing and drawing, erasing and drawing. It takes forever! My "smoothing" says stabilizer so i dont know if i have an outdated version or not. And the vector says linework layer. >.< I would of never known what it was without visual aid. Im completely new to drawing on computer with software.

hey, when I made a picture on Vector how can I paint it?
TheTartaros Featured By Owner Feb 28, 2011
How do you get your pen tool to draw with pressure? Whenever I draw it is like drawing on microsoft paint and the line is shapeless. I can only seem to add pressure AFTER drawing the line :(
Technowolf3000 Featured By Owner Oct 5, 2011  Hobbyist General Artist
on the 'vector layer' or in my case, the 'Linework layer' it has a pressure tool, where you can add pressure using that ;D
Catwolf Featured By Owner Mar 2, 2011  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I assume you have a graphic tablet with pressure sensitivity
So you have to make sure that the "Min Size" slider is at 0%
If that's the case already, perhaps your install of SAI is busted? or the tablet drivers?
I can't think of any other reasons for it not to work

OMG! One of my friends told me about this tool and your tutorial!

Thanks Catwolf! Time to dump Photoshop 7 (it's ancient anyway!) :D

Thanks, this was really helpful. ^^ <33

Question though. Do you know how to convert sai files to regular files without screen shooting? o:
Catwolf Featured By Owner Nov 2, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
just save it as JPG or PNG?
I don't get your problem, sorry ^^"
